ENGLISH FOXHOUND
APPEARANCE
The English Foxhound is medium sized with a very muscular build. Their coat is short and tough but also glossy and is always “hound colors,” which are tan, white, and black; sometimes the coat is a combination of all three of these colors. The skull is wide, the muzzle is long, and eyes carry a sweet expression. The legs are muscular, straight-boned, and the paws are rounded, almost cat-like. These dogs weigh in at 60-95 pounds for females, and 75-95 pounds for males. The height of the English Foxhound is around 24-26 inches.
PERSONALITY
The English Foxhound is an excellent working dog and an obedient partner. They have an extremely high activity level and joyful attitude towards their work. They are sweet and loving dogs that enjoy being around people and dogs alike. This is a dog that wants to move around and learn new things. The English Foxhound is simply a dog that has been hunting and searching for new things its entire life, and continues to want to do that.
TRAINING
The English Foxhound will need a very willful and patient owner. They tend to be a rowdy breed so obedience is going to be a bit more difficult in comparison to other breeds. The English Foxhound can be a very independent and headstrong creature, and is therefore best suited to those with some experience of dog ownership. In order to control this type of dog, you will need to assert your authority.
EXERCISE
Bred to run for miles at a time, the English Foxhound needs plenty of exercise. To maintain its healthy and its body structure, this dog breed will want to have plenty of time to exercise - as often as possible. A long walk or jog everyday is recommended, though be careful when exercising your Foxhound off leash. This dog will follow a scent to the ends of the earth, and calling him off that scent can be difficult.
SOCIALIZATION
The English Foxhound was originally a pack hound, therefore, it gets along well with other dogs and enjoys human companionship. It gets along with horses, children, and other pets, as it is a gentle, social, and tolerant breed. he English Foxhound may be friendly or reserved around strangers. These dogs will bark to indicate danger, and this can make them effective watchdogs.
LIVING CONDITIONS
The English Foxhound is physically and mentally capable of living outdoors, provided it has a dog or other pet to keep it company. They are not recommended for apartment life.
GROOMING
Coat care requires little more than an occasional brushing coupled with a wipe down with a damp cloth will keep his coat clean and glossy. Its eyes will need cleaning from time to time and You should also ensure that the ear canals are kept dry and clean. he English Foxhound is generally a low shedder when properly groomed, which means that he could prove ideal for those that suffer from allergies.

The English Foxhound originated in England around the 1500’s and were primarily used for hunting. They are a type of scent hound most commonly used to hunt fox. The breed was registered with the AKC in 1909.
